Marina Del Rey

Marina Del Rey is an absolutely gorgeous area that is perfect for a weekend getaway or to call home. There’s a restaurant everywhere you look and a wide assortment of trendy hotels to choose from. It’s not too far from Los Angeles either. Only 14 miles of L.A., it’s possible to drive to or from for a day trip or to get away for the weekend. However, try to arrive in non-peak hours if you don’t want to face traffic frenzy on the 10 freeway.

M.C. Wicks, a real estate developer, had a vision of transforming Playa del Rey estuary into a major player in the commercial industry. This is how the Marina Del Rey we know today was born. That was way back in 1887. However, Marina Del Rey wasn’t ready until 1965 due to decades of storms, funding problems, and other issues.

Marina Del Rey is a popular destination for vacationers as well as L.A. boating enthusiasts and those traveling on business. There’s an array of yacht clubs, boat clubs, and even classes. Surrounded by astonishing hotels, restaurants, and condos, it’s very much the place to be on any weekend it’s nice out. You can find plenty of spots near the water to enjoy an afternoon picnic or you can set sail to the sea.

While you’re here, be sure to head to one of the most well-known California beaches; Venice Beach. It’s just a short trip down the road, but you’ll feel like you’ve just traveled far, far away when you see the difference in between the two areas. Marina Del Ray and Venice Beach have a very different feel to them. In Venice Beach you can find everything from businessman walking the sidewalk in their suits to free spirited kids whizzing around on skateboards. It’s amazing how much cultural diversity can be found within the Marina Del Ray area.
