Burbank is found at the western end of the San Fernando Valley in California. It’s name comes from David Burbank, a dentist from New Hampshire, and is often referred to as the “Media Capital of the World”. Some of the major entertainment and media companies that have headquarters or produce large amounts of their shows here are Viacom, NBC Universal, PBS, Warner Bros. Entertainment, and The Walt Disney Company. That’s a pretty impressive line-up.
It only makes sense that many of the residents in Burbank work in the media, with motion picture companies or TV studios. There are also foreign socialites and well-to-do families that are associated with the world of media. The defense industry has pretty much been taken over by the entertainments industry. Being so close to Hollywood, yet having a small-town atmosphere means it offers the high quality of life most of its residents are looking for. The schools, police, hospitals, and fire departments all live up to the high standards expected here.
If you’re visiting Burbank, stop by the Media City Center where you can find an array of restaurants, shopping venues, and other services. Since the weather is usually nice, there’s always the option of relaxing in one of the 22 parks found here. The parks in Burbank make up over 2,000 acres and offer such activities as tennis, golf, ball parks, and even an outdoor amphitheatre. For something a little different, you can visit one of many apple orchards where you can wander among the grounds and gather some fresh, delicious apples.
Walking is a great way to experience what Burbank has to offer. But there’s public transportation as well. If you’re going to be driving your own car or a rented car, expect to pay just over $2.00 per gallon for gas right now.
